I qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 2010, having completed my BSc (Hons) degree at Salford University, Greater Manchester. I have gained broad experience within the National Health Service having worked in Orthopaedics, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Outpatients and within Women’s Health Physiotherapy. In addition, for over six years I have been running Therapy First physiotherapy practice, managing patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, sports and occupational injuries as well as women’s health conditions. I also undertake medico-legal case work from solicitors and medico-legal agencies.
From early childhood, I have suffered from a curvature of the spine, known as scoliosis. I have had regular Physiotherapy treatment that enabled me to minimise the damage in my spine and has equipped me with self-management strategies. This is one of the main reasons why I became a Physiotherapist: I found Physiotherapy and long-term tailored home exercises extremely effective and wanted to help people with similar conditions to mine. In my practice, I strive to assist clients to achieve their physical potential through manual treatment, postural and movement re-education as well as tailored home-exercise programmes. Additional qualification in Sports Massage has allowed me to greatly improve my manual skills, which I believe is invaluable if one wants to be a good physical therapist. In 2012, a qualification gained in Acupuncture, has been an important addition to my skills.
In 2011, I qualified as a MODIFIED PILATES teacher through the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI), the only Pilates institute in Europe founded and directed by fully qualified physiotherapists. The modified Pilates method taught by the Institute is a reliable way to exercise, aimed at people of all ages and levels of fitness, those with chronic conditions such as arthritis or those who suffered musculoskeletal injuries as well as pregnant women. I also find inspiration from Callan Pinckney`s fitness regime – Callanetics – based on isometric exercise.
My physiotherapy background and knowledge of anatomy and physiology, combined with extensive training in remedial and rehabilitation exercises, enables me to tailor my treatment methods to an individual’s needs and within the abilities of my clients. As a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, I continue my personal development and education through specialist workshops and courses.
I have also recently trained in a revolutionary method of exercise known as HYPOPRESSIVES. It is a series of breathing exercises and yoga postures that work on the intrinsic (involuntary) core muscles and can dramatically improve your posture and have proven to help with diastasis recti post pregnancy, pelvic organ prolapse, incontinence or other bladder issues, back pain as well as problems such as snoring or anxiety.
